What We Did On Our Holiday

Just as the beginning of September marks the start of the school year for many schools across the UK, Ugandan schools are still on holiday. Most WTA teachers are resting, visiting their families or preparing for the new term - except for Connect Centre staff...

Both Connect Gulu and Lukomera are in the midst of action-packed holiday programmes. These are meticulously planned and carefully prepared to give the children the best experience.

Holiday programmes welcome children from the local community to learn in a fun and exciting way. For many children struggling to read and write in mainstream school, they get a great opportunity to catch up and learn in smaller groups. The more creative style of teaching and learning make the sessions vibrant and energetic. Gulu teachers are also busy training groups of teachers eager and available to grow their own skills during the holidays. Hopefully, the photos speak beautifully for themselves. 

When Connect 'graduates' move up to WTA, their secondary teachers often notice their strong skills in reading, writing, using IT and speaking English. This, of course, is a fabulous testimony to the work of the Connect Centres. Furthermore, holiday programmes often end with competitions, prizes and ceremonies.
